Avocational archeologists will spend a day learning about ethnobotany and techniques for studying floral data collected from an archeological site.  The day will begin in the classroom with an overview by Dr. Gina Powell.  Then participants will be split into two groups:  one for a field trip to identify local wild plants of use to human beings and another to process, by flotation and water screening methods, sediment samples from Fool Chief's Village, a 1830-1844 Kansa Indian village in Shawnee County, Kansas.  After several hours, the groups will switch activities.
