There will be a celebration at Green Shell Enclosure on Hilton Head Island all day
commemorating the 350th Anniversary of the Siting of Hilton Head Island by William
Hilton and the 30th Anniversary of the Town of Hilton Head. The Heritage Library on
Hilton Head Island will host the event and all of the historical and archaeological sites on
Hilton Head will be adopted by many historical and archaeological organizations
represented on Hilton Head Island. Members and friends of the Archaeological Society
of South Carolina ––Hilton Head Chapter (ASSC––HHI) will be at the Green Shell
Enclosure to discuss it’s significance and history. Oct. 1 will be History Day, and there
will be bus transportation and/or self-guided tours all day. The SC Department of
Natural Resources (DNR) and the ASSC maintain the Green Shell Enclosure––HHI and
conducts a monthly or bi-monthly drive by to see if everything is well preserved.
Discussions are on-going regarding the improvement of signage.
