THE ANCIENT PERSIAN CYLINDER OF CYRUS THE GREAT
Dr. William Schniedewind, Kershaw Chair of Eastern Mediterranean Studies, UCLA, discusses the Ancient Persian Cylinder of Cyrus the Great. The cuneiform inscribed on this clay cylinder relates how the Persian King Cyrus conquered Babylon in 539 B.C. and released the captives to go home; it appears to confirm the biblical account of the Jews' return to Jerusalem. The Cylinder is on view at the Getty Villa October 2, 2013, through December 2, 2013.
