Cleveland Museum of Natural History
1 Wade Oval Drive (University Circle)
Cleveland, OH 44106-1767
The Cleveland Archaeological Society will join other groups interested in archaeology and related subjects for a full day of exhibits and presentations at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.
Our informational table will feature photos of the Society’s Internship winners and their excavation work as well as materials describing the missions and accomplishments of both the Cleveland Archaeological Society and AIA. Free copies of Archaeology Magazine, membership application forms, and attractive brochures will also be available. A power-point slide show of scenes from the Society’s sponsored interns at their excavation sites will accompany the print materials.
Families can enjoy hands-on opportunities to experience some of the mystery and excitement of archaeology. Children can make a rubbing from a stele, or don white gloves to carefully reconstruct a ceramic vessel from sherds. Members of the CAS Board and archaeology students from Cleveland State University will be present to supervise the hands-on experience, and explain each activity and its archaeological importance. Joining the group will be a 6-foot replica of an Egyptian Mummy as a “photo-op” for the many young families who attend.
