In honor of National Archaeology Day on Oct. 22, the J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Villa will participate by offering special tours that stress the significance and history of archaeology. The Spotlight and Collection Highlights Tours will emphasize relevant topics, including how different materials survive once buried, early excavation practices compared with archaeology today, and issues of conservation. The day will also include a special hour-long Focus Tour which examines works of art with compelling histories and explores themes of discovery and excavation, cultural patrimony, and the history of collecting.
Timed tickets are needed for entry to the museum. These can be obtained on the ticket calendar at www.getty.edu/visit/hours
