Science and Archaeology - Australian Archaeological Association Conference

Sponsored by Australian Archaeological Association

Sunday, December 9, 2012 - Thursday, December 13, 2012

Location:
Centre for Archaeological Science, University of Wollongong
Wollongong
Australia

The AAA Annual Conference is the major event in the professional calendar for archaeologists, including AAA members and non-members alike, along with Traditional Owners, cultural heritage managers and other related disciplines to get together, present and listen to papers and posters in order to find out about the latest archaeological discoveries, and catch up with colleagues they haven’t seen for 12 months. AAA has approximately 1000 members and the Annual Conference typically attracts about 400 delegates from Australia and overseas.

AAA2012 will take place in the coastal city of Wollongong, New South Wales from Monday 10 to Thursday 13 December 2012, following a Graduate CV Workshop on the afternoon of Sunday 9 December 2012 and an informal Welcome Event on the evening of Sunday 9 December 2012.

It will be hosted by the Centre for Archaeological Science (CAS), University of Wollongong. CAS was established in 2010 to develop, integrate and apply modern scientific techniques to answer fundamental questions about human evolution and the analysis of material remains of past human life and activities. The theme for AAA2012 will be ‘Science and Archaeology’ and we hope it will embrace a variety of approaches, including the role of science in archaeology, the development and application of scientific techniques to particular archaeological questions, and the interface between the sciences and the humanities in archaeology.

Our call for sessions is now open.
