Project Description

The pack is combination of two Balkan Heritage Field School (BHFS) projects focused on Ancient Greek Archaeology, History and Culture. It provides to either students or people interested in Archaeology and Ancient Greek World comprehensive experience (from four to eight weeks, covering the Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic periods) at two different sites: an emporion and a sanctuary, located in Bulgaria. What is more choosing to participate in the pack’s proposals the BHFS participants will benefit from the considerably reduced admission fees, faster registration and the option to join a 5-day excursion to Istanbul, Turkey between the field school projects.

The PACK combines the following Balkan Heritage Field School (BHFS) projects:
  1. Apollonia Pontica Excavation Project (AP.EXC 14) on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast;
  2. Ancient Greeks in the Land of Dionysos - Excavation of Emporion Pistiros in Thrace, Bulgaria (PIS.EXC 14)

and the optional excursion to Istanbul, Turkey (28 July - 1 August, 2014).

Room and Board Arrangements

Pack's locations: Sozopol and Varvara, Bulgaria. Participants in the pack will be expected to arrive first in Sozopol, Bulgaria.
At Sozopol: Participants will be accommodated in comfortable rooms with two to three beds (bathrooms with shower and WC), equipped with air-conditioning, refrigerators and TV in a hotel (one star) located very close to the town beaches, the Old Town Quarter, the Archaeological Museum and within 15 min walking distance from the archaeological site. Wi-Fi is available on the first floor of the hotel.
At Varvara: Participants will be accommodated in comfortable rooms with two to three beds (bathrooms with shower and WC), equipped with air-conditioning and TV in a local guest house located very close to Varvara Mineral Baths. The guest house has a small swimming pool with mineral water and provides cheap laundry service and free Wi-Fi. Three meals (fresh, organic Bulgarian homemade food) per day are covered by the admission fee. Requests for vegetarian food are accepted.
