Position Available: Annual Giving Manager

Job Description
The Archaeological Institute of America was founded in Boston in 1879.  Since its beginning the Institute has functioned both as a professional organization for archaeologists and as a membership organization with a majority of lay members. We now have over 8,500 members organized into a network of 105 Societies and more than 5000 donors who are not members.  Since 1948 the AIA has published the highly-regarded bimonthly popular magazine Archaeology with a readership of more than 700,000 and the acclaimed scholarly publication the American Journal of Archaeology.   The AIA is an educational organization offering financial support to scholars, an Annual Meeting for the exchange of ideas an information, and a wide ranging public education program for inquiring minds of all ages.  See our website www.archaeological.org for more information.

The AIA is in the planning stages of a comprehensive campaign and seeks an Annual Giving Manager to work cooperatively with the staff, the Governing Board and other volunteers to reach fundraising goals.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate all direct mail appeals for the Annual Fund, the Society for the American Journal of Archaeology, and other special projects, excluding membership.
  • Achieve assigned financial goals for selected funds through sophisticated donor list segmentation and selection of prospect lists
  • Maintain all donor records on Raiser’s Edge system and in files
  • Oversee timely and accurate processing and acknowledgment of all gifts (annual, restricted and planned) and provide periodic reports for donor recognition and financial reporting
  • Assist with donor research and strategies
  • Supervise part time student workers for database maintenance, data entry, in-house mailings, filing and program projects.
  • Represent the AIA positively in all interactions with donors, member and prospects in response to inquiries and during AIA events, ensuring high quality customer service.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years experience with non profit organizations
  • Good knowledge of Raiser’s Edge development software and Microsoft Office suite
  • Customer-oriented self starter who enjoys working collaboratively with team members who are passionate about achieving their objectives
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Interest in history or archaeology a plus

The Annual Giving Manager will report to the Executive Director in the Institute’s Boston office, conveniently located in Kenmore Square.  The AIA offers a competitive compensation package and the opportunity to grow professionally along with the organization.

Please send your cover letter and resume by email to jklahn@aia.bu.edu. No phone calls please.  Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
