Red River Archaeology, LLC, (RRA), a small, woman-owned cultural resources management firm located in Dallas, Texas, has an immediate opening for a full-time Project Archaeologist to join our cultural resources team.  RRA has experienced steady growth in business volume that is anticipated to continue throughout 2013 and into the future.  For the successful candidate, this position may lead to increased responsibilities and duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with developing and establishing protocols for conducting cultural resources fieldwork in TX, OK, KS, LA, and AR
  • Conduct archival research and prepare desktop-based project assessments
  • Conduct fieldwork and direct field crews
  • Prepare technical reports and correspondence according to state and/or federal standards
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Archaeology with field experience in RRA’s core region of TX, OK, KS, LA and/or AR
  • Listed as a Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) or qualified for RPA status
  • Minimum two years relevant experience
  • Experience with NEPA and Section 106 regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently perform research and data analysis
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to edit and complete technical reports in a timely fashion
  • Knowledgeable in Trimble/GPS data collection equipment, but must be able to read a topographic map, accurately use a compass, and have the ability to hand-draw accurate pace and compass site maps
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, Access, and Outlook)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able and available to travel with limited prior notice
  • Experience directing Phase I survey field crews (additional experience directing Phase II testing and/or Phase III data recovery field crews preferred)
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to fulfill deadline requirements, work on multiple projects at once, and work as an effective team member
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, clients, and regulators
  • Must have, or be willing to obtain, CPR/First Aid certification

Extras:

  • Able to be BLM-permitted for Great Plains Region, Southwest Texas Region, and/or Gulf Texas Region a plus
