AIA Lecturer: Donny George
Professor Donny George is a Visiting Professor at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He received his Ph.D. in Pre-Historic Archaeology from the University of Baghdad, and has excavated in the Bekhma Dam area, Nineveh, and Um Al-Agareb, as well as working on many restoration projects in Babylon, Nineveh, and Baghdad. He is the past Director General of the Iraqi Museums and the past Chairman of the Iraqi State Board of Antiquities and Heritage. Professor George played a large role helping to protect and recover Iraqi cultural heritage after the looting of the Iraq National Museum. His most recent publication is The Stone Industries in Tell Es-Sawwan (2010). He was honored for his work and dedication at the SAFE Beacon Awards in 2008, and was the AIA’s Joukowsky Lecturer for 2008/2009. Professor George is an AIA Kershaw Lecturer for 2010/2011.
