AIA Lecturer: Paul Zimansky

Paul Zimansky is Professor of Archaeology and Anceint History with Stony Brook University. He received his B.A. from Johns Hopkins and Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations from the University of Chicago, and his areas of specialization are ancient Near Eastern and Mesopotamian history and archaeology, ancient Anatolia, Urartu, early empires and ancient imperialism, and ancient writing systems. He was co-director of the Outer Town Project at Ayanis in Turkey (1997 to 2009), and has also excavated in Iraq and Syria. His main recent publications include The Anatomy of a Mesopotamian City: Survey and Soundings at Mashkan Shapir (with E.C. Stone, 2004) and Ancient Turkey (with A. Sagona, 2009). Professor Zimansky was an AIA Norton Lecturer in 2008/2009.
