Abstract: Paynes Creek, Belize, Mayan Site

Lecturer: Heather McKillop

This lecture will examine the site of the submerged Mayan city at Paynes Creek National Park in Belize, where wooden structures (the only known for the Classic Maya) have been perfectly preserved underwater. This site received an AIA Site Preservation Grant to protect the area and to educate tourists and residents about it. A description of the site and the grant proposal can be seen at  http://www.archaeological.org/projects/paynescreekbelize.
