Students in Archaeology: Third Annual Poster Presentation of Recent Fieldwork and Research Projects

In spring of 2013, the Minnesota Society was awarded the AIA’s Society Outreach Grant for their program entitled Students in Archaeology: Poster Presentation of Recent Field Work and Archaeological Research. On October 11th and 12th, the Minnesota Society’s grant was put to use. Thirteen students presented, representing the University of Minnesota, University of St. Thomas, Macalester College, and St. Olaf College. The event was held in conjunction with the University of Saint Thomas Art History Department’s Graduate Student Research Symposium and included a keynote address by Jason Felch (co-author of Chasing Aphrodite).

Over a hundred people attended this year’s Students in Archaeology event over the course of two days. The students enjoyed the opportunity to present their posters and to interact with fellow students, professionals, and the general public. After the more formal presentations, refreshments were served to encourage further conversation during the event. The event was a great success and plans for another event next year are already underway.
