18th EAA Annual Meeting will be held in Helsinki, Finland, August 29 - September 1

From August 29 to September 1, 2012, representatives from the AIA will be participating in the 18th Annual Meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists in Helsinki, Finland. This is the second year of a collaborative effort started in 2011 to encourage greater participation by each organization’s members in the activities and programs of the other organization. Last year, at the 17th Annual Meeting, the AIA participated as an Exhibitor and had discussions with the leadership of the EAA about the nature of future collaborative efforts. This year, in addition to being an exhibitor, the Institute will be represented at two academic sessions:

Session A10: ARCHAEOLOGY IN SOCIETY AND DAILY LIFE Thursday 11.20–11.40:Fostering Heritage Stewardship to Preserve Archaeological Sites, Ben Thomas and Meredith Anderson Langlitz (Archaeological Institute of America, USA)

Session D2: VOCATIONAL TRAINING OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL HERITAGE Friday 16.35–16.50: Public Engagement through Archaeology Day, Meredith Anderson Langlitz and Ben Thomas (Archaeological Institute of America, USA)

AIA Director of Conferences, Andri Cauldwell, will be at the AIA table in Room 8 of the EAA Exhibition Area in the Main Building of the University of Helsinki. Meeting participants should stop by to find out about discounted registration for EAA members at the 2013 AIA/APA Joint Annual Meeting to be held from January 3-6, 2013 in Seattle, Washington. Spend some time between sessions browsing the new digital edition of ARCHAEOLOGY Magazine or sign up to receive a discounted rate for the American Journal of Archaeology. Students and non-members are invited to preview a list of funding opportunities available to all members of the AIA, a global network over a quarter million strong.

The AIA looks forward to welcoming greater discourse between both institutes' collective memberships and hopes to welcome the EAA in its Exhibit Hall this January to encourage AIA members to attend future EAA conferences.
