Celebrate National Archaeology Day at the Manatee Settlement
September 13, 2012
As part of National Archaeology Day, Manatee Mineral Springs is hosting a community event to celebrate the original village of Manatee, and the site’s archaeological and historical heritage. Reflections of Manatee, Inc., the site’s non-profit owners, are sponsoring a community picnic to celebrate pioneer foods, with games and activities centered on Florida’s Native Americans or early Anglo-American settlers. There will also be a presentation by Dr. Uzi Baram of New College of Florida on the excavations conducted at the site.
As preparations for International Archaeology Day pick up speed, more groups sign on daily. Today, four new groups joined the cause.
The Society for California Archaeology has signed on as a collaborating organization for International Archaeology Day.
2013's International Archaeology Day sees the return of many collaborating organizations from years past!
