“Tombstones & Trowels” in Haverhill
November 27, 2012
The Haverhill Historical Society hosted an Archaeology Open House in honor of National Archaeology Day and Massachusetts Archaeology Month. The "Tombstones & Trowels" event included tours of the museum's archaeology exhibit, a scavenger hunt in a 17th century burial ground, refreshments, and a hall with different activity stations. In the hall, visitors were able to cross-mend redware potsherds, view "tools of the trade," make paper tombstones, excavate a mock dig, and clean artifacts.
Volunteers are needed to monitor the translations of the International Archaeology Day webpage.
After two years of great success, National Archaeology Day will change to International Archaeology Day for 2013.
The Friends of the Office of State Archaeology in Connecticut acted as a participating partner in National Archaeology Day by sponsoring an Archaeology Fair.
