National Archaeology Day Celebration in Richmond
October 26, 2011
On October 23, 2011 at the University of Richmond, the Richmond Society of the AIA held an open house for National Archaeology Day. Dr. Elizabeth Baughan of the University of Richmond, and one of the field directors of the excavations at Hacımusalar Höyük described the past summer’s excavations, and University of Richmond undergraduates Nils Niemeier, Janelle Sadarananda, and Caroline Cobert gave presentations on their roles in the project. Dr. Baughan and her students baked an excavation cake, from the “Layer Cake Archaeology” lesson plan found on the AIA’s website. Children enjoyed excavating the cake, as well as coloring in coloring books with archaeological themes.
