AFOB Online - Archaeological Fieldwork Opportunities Bulletin

AFOB Project #2521
3D Archaeological Recording and Visualization Project at Eleusis Greece
AFOB online continues to be one of the foremost fieldwork resources. There are over 250 listings for archaeological projects around the world. Each AFOB listing features a project profile window with icons to provide information on the size of the project, age requirements, and academic credit availability. The listings continue to provide in-depth descriptions of the projects and accommodations, as well as bibliographies and other detailed information.

If you would like to receive a monthly email on new and updated fieldwork listings, please subscribe to the AIA e-Update. This email contains links to all the new job, conference, fellowship, and fieldwork postings as well as information on the latest additions to the AIA website.

Post a Fieldwork Opportunity
AFOB is now one of the foremost online resources for individuals looking for fieldwork. Over 300 projects have been listed with AFOB during the past year and hundreds of individuals search the listings each week. There is no charge to include your project in the online database and we encourage all project directors to post their projects.

Please note that new features have been added to the online submission process:

  • Preliminary listings are now welcome! Upon approval of your submission, you will be sent a confirmation email and password, allowing you to update project details.
  • You can also upload a picture of your project--but please prepare the image in advance: files must be in JPEG or GIF format, no more than 50K, and 200 pixels on its largest dimension.
  • New required fields have been added concerning project size (0-24, 25-49, 50+), academic credit (offered/not offered), and projects accepting younger participants (under 18). These fields correspond to the icon system we've implemented online and in print to help AFOB readers and users find the right project.

About AFOB
For over 20 years, the Archaeological Institute of America has published the Archaeological Fieldwork Opportunities Bulletin, a resource for students, amateur archaeologists, and others seeking experience in archaeological excavation and survey. In 2003 AFOB Online was launched and in just a year grew to become one of the largest online listings of fieldwork opportunities in the world. Like its print predecessor, AFOB Online provides information beyond a simple list of excavation opportunities, including general and site-specific bibliographies, advice on preparing for participation in an excavation, and more. Online and in print, AFOB continues to be a critical resource for student and volunteer archaeologists.
