Many professional and non-professional members of the AIA are involved with one or more committees of the Institute. Committees meet throughout the year and at the Annual Meeting to discuss policies of the Institute and issues that are current in the many specialties within the field of archaeology.
American Committee on the Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum The Committee is responsible for approving, editing, and recommending for publication fascicles of the CVA on vases in the United States.

Annual Meeting Outreach Committee This Committee addresses those aspects of the Annual Meeting not covered by the Program for the Annual Meeting Committee; specifically, it develops programs for avocational members, programs for the general public, and teachers' and children's workshops.
APA/AIA Joint Committee on Minority Scholarships
The committee oversees the annual selection process and the awarding of scholarship assistance to undergraduate minority students. Minority status will be defined in accordance with Federal Guidelines.

APA/AIA Placement Committee This Committee is a joint committee of the Archaeological Institute of America and the American Philological Association. It is charged with monitoring current hiring procedures and suggesting modifications and improvements when necessary.

Audit Committee
Assists the Governing Board in fulfilling its financial oversight responsibilities to ensure that the assets of the Institute are properly safeguarded and its activities accurately accounted for (e.g. among other duties, the audit - scope, process, fees and communication; regulatory filings; fiscal integrity; identification of financial risk exposures and correspondingly appropriate insurance or other mitigants).

Conservation and Heritage Management Committee The Committee is charged to form liaisons between AIA and professional organizations dedicated to conservation; to promote greater awareness of the central role of conservation in archaeological fieldwork, among professional archaeologists as well as the interested public; to advise the AIA Governing Board and Committees on specific issues related to conservation; to develop colloquia for the Annual Meeting on current issues in conservation practice and theory, architectural conservation, site management and presentation, ethics, and conservation.

Cultural Property Legislation and Policy Committee The Committee shall be responsible for tracking and reporting on national and international legislation that affects archaeology; keeping up with progress on UNIDROIT, the Hague Convention, the Underwater Resources Convention, and various EEC directives; investigating and responding to issues concerning the illicit trade in antiquities; and developing timely AIA responses as necessary.

Development Committee The Committee is charged with the preparation of a coherent development program to recommend to the Governing Board and with overseeing its implementation once it has been approved. The program will include an annual giving program and other activities that may seem desirable.

Education Committee The function of the Committee is to promote educational programs and to raise the level of consciousness of all citizens, beginning with programs for school-age children and expanding eventually to similar programs for adult audiences.

Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award Committee The Committee shall recommend each year to the Governing Board candidate(s) for the Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award. The Committee's nominee should be the person whom the Committee, in its collective judgment, considers to be the most deserving of such recognition by the Institute.
Executive Committee This Committee was established by the Governing Board in 1984 to exercise all the power and authority of the Governing Board between meetings of the Governing Board.
Fellowships Committee The Committee is charged to review applications and select the recipients of all fellowships of the Institute, in accordance with guidelines determined by the Governing Board.

Finance Committee The Committee, chaired by the Treasurer, monitors the financial position of the Institute, recommends financial policies to the Governing Board, assists the Treasurer in the preparation of the Institute's budget which it then recommends to the Governing Board and oversees all Institute investments. In carrying out its oversight of investments the Committee maintains an Investment Subcommittee from which it receives policy
recommendations and to whom it delegates authority to carry out approved
policies.

James R. Wiseman Book Award Committee The Committee on the James R. Wiseman Book Award is charged with recommending, in time for publication of the award in the Bulletin of the Institute and announcement of the award at the Annual Meeting of the Institute, the work by a member of the Institute it deems most worthy of recognition in that year. Books and monographs bearing a date of publication within the four calendar years prior to (not including) the year of the Annual Meeting at which the award is made will be eligible for consideration.

Lecture Program Committee The primary responsibility of the Committee is to select the most outstanding lecturers available for the Lecture Program of the Institute.

Local Society Incentive Grant Committee The Committee is an interim committee composed of members of the Local Society Prize Committee and members of the Regional Symposia Committee. The Local Society Incentive Grant is a temporary combination and replacement of the Local Society Prize and the Regional Symposia until such time as either or both may be restored. The Committee is responsible to draft and maintain appropriate application and evaluation forms for the grant of $1,000 so long as a donor is willing to fund the grant. The Committee will judge all applications on the basis of how well the intended project fulfills the objectives of the AIA in education and outreach to the local community.
Nominating Committee Because of its function, the Nominating Committee falls outside the standard committee oversight practices of the Institute. Members of the Nominating Committee are responsible for seeking viable candidates for Trustee and Officer vacancies. Personnel Committee The committee, consisting of the Officers of the Institute, periodically reviews the personnel management policies of the Institute.

Planned Giving Committee The Planned Giving Committee is charged with recruiting individuals to join the Charles Eliot Norton Society and with educating potential donors about the benefits associated with making a planned gift to the Institute. The Committee works in cooperation with the Development Committee, and the Chair of each committee shall serve in an ex officio capacity on the other committee.
Pomerance Science Medal Committee The Committee is charged to recommend each year to the Governing Board a candidate for this Award based on the recipient's contribution to archaeology through their work in a related scientific field.

Professional Responsibilities Committee The Committee shall advise the Governing Board on appropriate policies and action concerning the preservation of archaeological resources, placement and employment, standards of archaeological excavations, professional ethics, and other matters involving professional responsibilities.

Program for the Annual Meeting Committee The Committee has broad responsibilities for organizing the presentations of scholarly papers at the Annual Meeting of the Institute.
