Kandace D. Hollenbach, Research Associate Professor at the Archaeological Research Lab of the University of Tennessee, will talk about her research on the plant remains recovered from the Townsend Archaeological Project in Blount County, Tennessee, spanning from approximately 5000 years ago through the protohistoric Cherokee occupation ending around AD 1720.  These charred bits of plants can inform us about the daily activities, basic economies, and settlement strategies of the archaeological peoples living in eastern Tennessee.
