Prof. Dr. Mamdouh El-Damaty, Ain Shams University, Former Ministry of Antiquities, EGYPT

Saturday, May 4, 3:30pm

UPenn Museum, Philadelphia, Anthropology Classroom 345

This talk will provide information about the work conducted by the Ain Shams University mission, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mamdouh Eldamaty, at ancient Heliopolis, modern Arab el-Hisn. Since 2017, excavations have revealed several new structures, including a Ramesside ceremonial palace and chapel of Ramesses II, as well as casemate building with multiple phases of use. In addition, several important artefacts have been discovered during the digging process that is helping to rewrite the history of the ancient city of Heliopolis.
