Archeologists and the museum curator from Petersburg National Battlefield and the Fort Lee Regional Curation Facility archeologists will exhibit items and demonstrate methods and techniques archeologists use to learn more about the battlefield. We have games, demonstrations of ground penetrating radar (GPR), and a trailer with information on the Union and Confederate mining activity in 1864. In addition, there will be “dig boxes” for kids and adults find artifacts and discover stories about the past. A hands on ceramic making activity will teach people how Native Americans in the region made and decorated their ceramics in the past.
