Dig It! Archaeology Adventures at the Skirball Cultural Center celebrates International Archaeology Day and California Archaeology Month!

About the Program

Calling all aspiring archaeologists to the Skirball’s dig site! With the help of the archaeological staff in an outdoor field laboratory, discover what we have in common with people who lived centuries ago.

Slip on an archaeologist’s vest, sift and sort to find ancient artifacts buried beneath the sand, weigh and examine your findings, and analyze clues to piece together the story of an ancient Iron Age town.

Archaeology Month at the Skirball: Craft in the Ancient World

Each weekend in October, let’s celebrate California Archaeology Month! Through a combination of live demonstrations and interactive activities, discover how people in the past made crafts. The Near East meets the West as we look at traditions from both ancient Israel and California.

October 6-7: Spinning and Weaving

October 13-14: Ceramics

October 20-21: Lithics (October 20th is International Archaeology Day!)

October 27-28: Basketry

Designed for ages 5 and up.

Dig activities may be moved indoors due to weather.

When placing events on your calendar using these buttons, please check that time zone displays correctly.
