Restoration and Care of Historic Cemeteries

Speaker: Dan Clark

Tour three historic cemeteries that have been abandoned, and participate in an assessment of their needs, and how best to address them.  The tour will begin with the Stubblefield (Saling) Cemetery northwest of the corner of Reser and Foster Roads, and will also include the Lyons Creek (Hendrix) Cemetery northeast of the corner of Mill Creek and Meiners Roads, and the Rose Hill (Buroker) Cemetery, northeast of the corner of Middle Waitsburg and Smith Roads.  The new nonprofit, Walla Walla Historic Cemeteries has been granted a Certificate of Authority from the Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation for the care and maintenance of each of these historic cemeteries, and will be leading the tour and assessment process. Tickets will cost $30 ($15 for students), and all proceeds will go to an historic cemeteries restoration and maintenance fund.
