Eckerd College

St Petersburg, FL 33711 United States

A new multimedia touring exhibit about the archaeology of sound and the world’s oldest buildings. The OTS Foundation for Neolithic Studies is partnering with Eckerd College’s Visual Arts discipline to premiere Echoes from the Age of Stone on International Archaeology Day, Saturday, October 20 through Sunday, October 21 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in The Elliott Experimental Gallery in the Nielsen Center for Visual Art at Eckerd College, 4200 54th Avenue South, St. Petersburg, Florida 33711.

Imagine being inside a time capsule from prehistory, where sound plays tricks and primordial ghosts were artists & architects…

The centerpiece of the exhibit is an interactive audio/visual installation featuring original recordings made during Archaeoacoustic research inside a 6,000 year-old mortuary shrine. Archaeoacoustics is the systematic multidisciplinary study of sound in ancient ritual, ceremonial and performance spaces, and the human experience thereof.

Echoes from the Age of Stone is the end product of years of research and development.  Sincere thanks for support are given to Heritage Malta, The German Archaeological Institute, the late Dr. Klaus Schmidt and the National Museum of Archaeology in Sanliurfa, Turkey.

Echoes from the Age of Stone (website http://www.otsf.org/echoes-exhibition.html) has been prepared to visit colleges and universities, activity centers and other venues around North America. The exhibit is the product of The OTS Foundation for Neolithic Studies, with offices in Manatee County, Florida and the Mediterranean island of Malta.  OTSF is a United States of America not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) educational foundation, which has also for 20 years provided international educational programming for the Road Scholar organization.

Curating the event is Linda C. Eneix, author of Listening for Ancient Gods.
