Experimental Archaeology, or How They Did It

October 20, 2018

Muzeum Górnośląskie w Bytomiu (Upper Silesian Museum in Bytom)
pl. Jana III Sobieskiego, 2
Bytom, śląskie 41-902 Poland

This year we are going to tell a story about experimental archaeology. Lecturers will try to answer the questions: when and for what reason did archaeologists start to conduct experiments? Are such experiments useful and how does experimental archaeology look today? Invited specialists will show, in an interactive way, the metallurgy of bronze and flintknapping techniques. There will be workshops for children – making shell beads, selvedges, twines and shoes. We have some reconstructed prehistoric tools and equipment in our collection, so everyone will see or perhaps even try them. We are planning an after-hours curatorial tour of the exhibition “His Highness King Shoe.”

This year we are supported by PEC Sp. z o.o. in Bytom, a local thermal power company.
