International Archaeology Day at Tonto National Monument

From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Visitor Center, learn about the intricate pottery designs of the Salado from park archeologists. Recreate their patterns or create your own at the pot painting station. This activity is free and open to the public. 

At 2:00 p.m. meet at the Visitor Center, and join a park ranger for a guided hike to the Lower Cliff Dwelling. Bring water, good shoes, and a camera. On the way to the 700-year-old Salado strucutre, discover the archeological history of the Monument and learn about some of the artifacts they recovered. This hike is offered at no additonal charge. Park entrance fees apply.
