Lectures will be organized during the International Day of Archaeology at the Museum of Gemer-Malohont. On this day, Dr. Alexander Botoš is going to present the latest archaeological research from the museum. In the paper he will present the remarkable results of his archaeological research, i.e. research of a burial cemetery from the Bronze Age in the center of Rimavská Sobota, research of the defunct Pauline monastery in Slavec-Gombasek, research on the fortified position of Nižný Skálnik-Maginhrad and research of the defunct Širkovce-Kapla castle.
After the lecture by Dr. Botoš there will be a lecture by Mgr. Daniel Besina, PhD, about Modern Archaeology. Archaeology has been dependent on some form of illustration/imagery from its beginnings. The current dynamic development of computer technology enables this science to have unprecedented possibilities of visualization, which is useful for scientific research and in the presentation of archaeology. Dr. Bešina in his paper will present the use of modern technologies in the process of archaeological research. Participants have an opportunity to learn more about 3D photogrammetry, 3D scanning, aeronautical archaeology and the possibilities for further use in special computer softwares. These methods have been used in some archaeological research conducted by the Museum of Gemer-Malohont, as well as in the reconstruction of selected archaeological finds from the museum’s collection.
