Intro to Archeology of the Olympic Peninsula

October 20, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm EDT

Bartlett/Cotton Building
607 Water Street
Port Townsend, WA 98368 United States

In celebration of Archaeology Month, this presentation by local archaeologist Gary Wessen will offer an overview of the Archaeology of the Olympic Peninsula. It will address environmental change in the region during the past ca. 15,000 years, the history of archaeological research, the types of archaeological resources which occur here, and the origins of the “Classic Northwest Culture” present when Europeans arrived. Local excavations and data will be used to tell the story. Finally, Wessen will also briefly consider the current environment in which these resources occur and the threats that face them today.
