Dr. Matthew Des Lauriers, Professor at Cal State University, Northridge will discuss his find along what Science Magazine called, “The Kelp Highway”. Since his first discovery of hints of early seafaring on Cedres Island, in the Pacific 80 miles WSW of Rosarito, Mexico, Dr. Des Lauriers has found 14 other sites dating to nearly 13,000 years ago, a density “unprecedented in North America”. His finds add to a growing list of sites that support the view that the first inhabitants of North America came by sea (ergo, the Kelp Highway). Dr. Des Lauriers, whose work is spotlighted in the August 11, 2017 Issue of Science, will discuss what his work reveals about the lives of these early travelers along our Western Coast.
