Shell-tempered pottery may be traceable to its area of manufacture based on the chemical content of the shell. This idea is being tested by a collaborative effort between Mississippi State University and the University of Missouri, via a grant from the National Science Foundation. This talk presents the history of the project, from its inception as an idea to the current results being obtained from analysis of shells and ceramics from a number of sites in the Yazoo Basin of Mississippi and adjacent areas.
