Chaco Culture National Historical Park will be celebrating International Archaeology Day on Saturday, October 20, 2018. There will be an exhibit hall with information booths from surrounding southwest archaeological groups for the public to explore throughout the day in the visitor’s center. Exhibitors will have information about membership, volunteer opportunities, and lecture series’ relevant to their organizations. Hands on activities for the public to enjoy will be taking place from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM. These stations include mock excavation boxes, structure repointing, and flintknapping demos lead by park archaeologists. Additionally, the park will be offering scheduled tours of Pueblo Bonito and Chetro Ketl.
Academic presentations will take place from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM in the Visitor Center auditorium and will begin and end with Native American Pueblo guest speakers. A Return to Chaco is meant as a celebration of the landscape and the inhabitants that inspired academics’ quest to answer the many questions Chaco inspires.
