The Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex, operated by the West Virginia Division of Culture and History, is pleased to host the 20th Annual Archaeology Weekend Saturday and Sunday, 6-7 October 2012 from 12-4 PM each day. This is a FREE event.
This promises to be a weekend of fun and discovery for the entire family. There will be hands-on activities, special exhibits, stone tool manufacture, pottery making, and spear throwing using the atlatl. Kids can compete for prizes with a museum search activity using exhibits within the Delf Norona Museum. The auditorium will showcase non-stop constinuous archaeology films. Curators within the West Virginia Archaeological Research and Collections Management Facility will be providing guided behind-the-scene tours. Visitors can also tour the seven acre grounds featuring the Grave Creek Mound, which is one of the largest Adena Cultural burial mounds built between 250-100 B.C., or view the interpretive garden.
The 20th Annual Archaeology Weekend at the Grave Creek Mound is a part of West Virginia Archaeology Month which is held during October.
