Rhode Island Hall, home to the Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World, will have an open house on Saturday, October 19th. Visitors will move through the building experiencing and participating in several workshops, posters, and demonstrations set up by faculty and graduate students. These events will include, among other things, an interactive human and animal bone lab, a poster session relating to the archaeological field work undertaken by local faculty and students, and a discussion and display of artifacts housed in Rhode Island Hall including a fairly extensive ancient coin collection.  Participants will also be able to observe and interact with a live excavation taking place on Brown University campus, as part of an ongoing undergraduate archaeology course. In addition to these events visitors can tour the Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology and the nearby Rhode Island School of Design Museum. These events also coincide with Brown University Family Weekend, so we expect a great turnout!
