Helena Ferguson, South Carolina Archaeology Public Outreach Division (SCAPOD,
Inc.), will give a talk on Archaeology Public Outreach Programs in South Carolina. This
year, the theme chosen for the South Carolina Archaeology Month Poster is Public
Outreach and Archaeology Education in South Carolina. Through numerous
organizations’ dedication to archaeology outreach and education, we are able to share
South Carolina’s amazing archaeological heritage. The 2013 South Carolina
Archaeology Month Poster features information and updates on those dedicated
organizations’ projects and their efforts to communicate their findings to the public. The
South Carolina Archaeology Public Outreach Division (SCAPOD) was pleased to be
asked to be the organizers for this year’s poster. SCAPOD was established as an
independent 501c3 non-profit in 2010 establishing its mission to encourage knowledge of
the state’s archaeology to the general public through publications, public education, and
museums. Entering SCAPOD’s fifth year of operation, co-founder Helena Ferguson will
discuss the South Carolina Archaeology Month Poster submissions and SCAPOD’s role
in enriching the public’s knowledge of South Carolina’s shared cultural heritage.
