Under the umbrella of Oklahoma Archaeology Month, the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) will host an event at the Oklahoma History Center on October 16. Activities at the SHPO include a tour and presentation of the Historic Preservation Office (2nd floor at the History Center) by Cate Wood (Historical Archaeologist/Section 106 Program Coordinator) at 11:00 am. No reservations are needed but it would be appreciated if people could send Cate an email or phone call to let her know how many to expect.
Then at 1:30 pm people are invited to attend the Historic Preservation Review Committee meeting located on the 3rd floor of the History Center in the conference room. This is where historic properties (archaeological (prehistoric & historic), buildings, structures and objects) that have been nominated to the National Register of Historic Places are reviewed and voted on to be included in the National Register. This meeting is always open to the public and it gives a good over view of Oklahoma’s diverse history.
There is a café on the third floor that people may go to for lunch.
