Professor James Cook (Trent University) will take a fresh look at the elaborate irrigation system that allowed the agricultural exploitation of the Fayum (330 BCE - 400 CE). Professor Cook argues that privileging ancient Greek texts on papyri over archaeological fieldwork ongoing near the site of Karanis has influenced the interpretation of life in Graeco-Roman Egypt.
