SUMMARY:Atlatl Demonstrations at Poverty Point World Heritage Site
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, October 22nd\, 9:30am-3pm\n$ = $4 park admission fee\, visitors 3 and under and 62 and older admitted free.\nFamily friendly \nVisitors to Poverty Point World Heritage Site are invited to take part in ranger-led demonstrations on Saturday\, October 22nd. Rangers will be using an atlatl (spear-thrower) to launch throwing spears or darts at a target to showcase the deadly force wielded by the Native American people of Poverty Point. Interested attendees will be able to participate and use an atlatl as well. This event is weather permitting. \nScheduled demos will take place next to the Archaeology Lab on site at 9:30 a.m.\, 11 am\, and 2 p.m. Unscheduled demos are also available throughout the day when staffing permits. \nPoverty Point World Heritage Site offers visitors the unique opportunity to experience and learn about the earthworks and those individuals who raised them from the ground between the years of 1700 and 1100 BCE. The $4 admission fee provides access to the museum\, film theatre\, hiking trail\, driving tour\, seasonal tram tour\, and any interpretive events taking place at the site. Children (3 and under) and senior citizens (62 and over) are admitted free of charge. \nPoverty Point is located at 6859 HWY 577\, Pioneer LA 71266. DESCRIPTION:To celebrate International Archaeology Day\, join the AIA Narragansett Society for a fun Saturday full of archaeological activities!\n– In Rhode Island Hall on the Main Green of Brown University\, come see ancient coins from Greece and Rome up close! Touch ancient animal bones! Examine and draw Persian and Roman ceramics\, prehistoric tools\, precious metals\, and other artifacts from thousands of years ago – coached by experts!  And talk with Brown’s archaeologists about their fieldwork all over the world! Family friendly\, free and open to the public.\n– On the grounds of Moses Brown School (at the corner of Hope St. and Lloyd Ave.)\, come be part of an active archaeological excavation! Students from ARCH 1900: The Archaeology of College Hill will be digging on the grounds of Moses Brown School (next to Brown’s athletic center)\, uncovering the foundations of a 19th century home and processing artifacts from that household. SUMMARY:Site visit to the Meet the Phoenicians of Malta exhibition at the National Museum of Archaeology\, Valletta
DESCRIPTION:Led by Mr. David Cardona\, Senior Curator\, Phoenician\, Roman and Medieval Sites\, Heritage Malta. Mr. Cardona will also take members round the Phoenician and Punic gallery on the top floor of the museum. \nA Phoenician stone sarcophagus excavated last year at Għajn Klieb\, on the outskirts of Rabat\,Malta is one of the major attractions in this exhibition. It brings to light the results of months of painstaking studies by a multidisciplinary team researching the sarcophagus and two other tombs discovered in the area\, as well as their contents. The three tombs\, although inherently different\, shed light on the burial rituals of the earliest Phoenicians on the island.
