DESCRIPTION:The Corning Museum of Glass is pleased to announce its 61st Annual Seminar on Glass\, a two-day program of online sessions that complements the special exhibition Dig Deeper: Discovering an Ancient Glass Workshop. \nThe program will explore the ways archaeologists study glass and glassmaking in the ancient world\, with particular focus on the site of Jalame in modern Israel. Presenters will share recent discoveries of ancient glass workshops\, new ways of understanding the relationship between the ancient and contemporary worlds\, and the process of immersing museum visitors in an exhibition about archaeological discovery. \nThe two-day program will include an international roster of keynote speakers\, papers\, and moderated panels. The community-based archaeology led to the cultural heritage festival celebrating the survivors of the 1821 slave raid Angola who fled from Manatee Springs to Red Bays\, The Bahamas; the descendants are returning for the fourth Back to Angola Festival. SUMMARY:UConn Stamford Anthropology Society Field Trip to Yale University & HRAF
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, October 20\, the Human Relations Area Files at Yale University will host an event in celebration of Archaeology Day. This will be HRAF’s second annual Archaeology Day event co-sponsored by the UConn Stamford Anthropology Society. \nStudents from the University of Connecticut have been invited to New Haven for a day exploring archaeology and cross-cultural research. We will begin our day with coffee in downtown New Haven followed by a tour of the historic Yale University campus led by Matthew Longcore\, Director of Membership and Outreach at HRAF and Anthropology adjunct faculty member at UConn Stamford. \nFollowing the tour\, the group will visit the HRAF offices at 755 Prospect Street for lunch featuring famous New Haven pizza. After lunch\, there will be a presentation on cross-cultural research from HRAF President Carol Ember followed by a workshop that introduces archaeology through illustration from HRAF Office Assistant Haley Brown. The day will conclude with a visit to the Yale University Art Gallery.
