The Tombs of the Nobles are the burial places of some of the powerful courtiers and persons of the ancient Egyptian city of Thebes (modern Luxor). Located on the west bank of the Nile, near the temples of the deified kings, there are at least 415 catalogued tombs. Thanks to almost 200 years of archaeological investigation, these tombs have told us much about the people who ruled the powerful Egyptian empire and about the lives of artists, merchants, sailors, soldiers, and farmers who were their contemporaries. Three archaeologists will share stories, images, and observations from their current excavations and research. This event will provide context and up-to-date information to Toledo Museum of Art's ongoing exhibition "The Egypt Experience: Secrets of the Tomb."
Lectures are free and open to the public. Banquet cost is $30 for members, $35 for nonmembers; seating is limited. Purchase tickets by calling 419-255-8000 ext. 7432.
