SUMMARY:Archaeology Fair
DESCRIPTION:This October the Marquette Regional History Center is joining hundreds of organizations around the world to celebrate International Archaeology Day. For the 12th year\, our fair will provide a look at archaeology in our region and world-wide. Hands-on learning for all ages. Multiple booths both indoors and outdoors feature various displays and activities. \nThis year\, we have a special presentation during the fair\, at 11:30:\n“Cosa: Excavations of a ‘Typical’ Latin Colony in Italy”\nArchaeologist Melissa Ludke will present on the excavation of a Roman bath house. As an archaeological park and small town in Italy\, Cosa has endured a long history of occupation from 273 BCE under the Romans to a small settlement during the Medieval period\, and beyond. Join us at 11:30 to learn about the historical development of a colony that has been excavated since 1948. Ludke’s talk will touch on the history of the site\, the archaeological exploration of various areas in the town\, and ongoing excavations of a Roman bath by Florida State University. Working at this site since 2016\, Ludke is currently participating in new investigations of a house and potential marketplace. She will present on exciting objects discovered at the site\, including ancient coinage\, which is one of her research specialties. \nRegister your booth to participate in our fair\, up until October 11th! https://www.marquettehistory.org/archaeology-booth-reg.html

SUMMARY:PLANO ARCHEOLOGY FAIR
DESCRIPTION:This year’s Archeology Fair will be held at the Plano Boys and Girls Club on October 21st! \nThe Fair is a FREE event which offers budding “junior archaeologists” an opportunity to participate in a mock excavation while learning proper excavation techniques and basic archaeological concepts from professionally trained archaeologists. Children also participate in Archaeology Land. In Archaeology Land\, children are provided an activity workbook and learn interesting facts about the prehistoric inhabitants of northcentral Texas and their lifestyle as they move from activity to activity. At each station\, children participate in a hands-on activity\, such as corn grinding\, pottery design replication\, rock painting\, basket weaving\, bracelet making\, and corn husk dolls. Demonstrations by flintknappers and atlatl throwers provide insight into the technologies of prehistoric peoples. Performances by the Bear Claw Singers\, a Native American drummer and singer group who have shared their talents with the Archaeology Fair for the past ten years\, are a highlight and a crowd favorite.

SUMMARY:Digging the Past Archaeology Day
DESCRIPTION:October is Archaeology Month in Ohio and we plan to celebrate! Not only will we be exploring archaeology\, but we will also be looking at different aspects of geology and changes to the earth due to erosion\, sedimentation\, and deposition. This program is great for any student or adult interested in Archaeology! \nCampus Martius will fill its halls with original artifacts from the pre-historic to the historic period displayed by local collectors and others from elsewhere throughout the state. Visitors will be given the rare opportunity to view these items and discuss their significance with their owners and see what might be found in their own backyard. Visitors are also encouraged to bring their local finds for identification. Younger students might enjoy the Young Archaeologist area that will have a discovery table and display of artifacts featuring dinosaur bones\, fossils\, and other rarities. \nJoin us for an exciting day of Digging the Past at Campus Martius Museum. Inquiries? Contact Bill Reynolds at 740-373-3750.
