SUMMARY:Laboratoire d’archéologie publique / Public Archaeology Lab
DESCRIPTION:We like to think of archaeologists as diggers who\, trowel in hand\, extract remains from the ground and describe their context. However\, while excavation is the most visible and iconic activity in archeology\, it is only part of their task. It is in the laboratory that they spend the most time processing their findings\, analyzing their data and proposing interpretations that will contribute to our knowledge. As it takes place out of the public eye\, this stage of the archaeological process is also the least understood.\nTo make this work more visible\, the Laboratoire d’archéologie et de patrimoine (Archeology and Heritage Laboratory) of the University of Quebec at Rimouski is moving into the Rimouski Regional Museum. From October 1 to 17\, 2021\, visitors are invited to interact with the archaeologists in residence as they continue their research on local and regional archaeological material.

SUMMARY:Archaeology Day at the FCM
DESCRIPTION:Experimental archaeology is a key component of living history. Historical documents like diaries and newspapers only give you so much information. Likewise with excavated materials: sometimes you just don’t know what an artifact was used for or by whom. Experimental archaeology allows for scientists to explore the creation methods and use of everyday items\, in order to better understand the archaeological collection. \nFor Archaeology Day 2021\, the Frontier Culture Museum is presenting a day of experimental archaeology. Some of the activities are things the interpreters do on site everyday\, which shows how closely living history and archaeology are linked. Other activities are old favorites\, like our dig boxes and Eastern Woodland pottery firing.

SUMMARY:Digging the Past Archaeology Day
DESCRIPTION:October is Archaeology Month in Ohio and we plan to celebrate! Not only will we be exploring archaeology\, but we will also be looking at different aspects of geology and changes to the earth due to erosion\, sedimentation\, and deposition. This program is great for any student or adult interested in Archaeology! \nCampus Martius will fill its halls with original artifacts from the pre-historic to the historic period displayed by local collectors and others from elsewhere throughout the state. Visitors will be given the rare opportunity to view these items and discuss their significance with their owners and see what might be found in their own backyard. Visitors are also encouraged to bring their local finds for identification. Younger students might enjoy the Young Archaeologist area that will have a discovery table and display of artifacts featuring dinosaur bones\, fossils\, and other rarities. \nJoin us for an exciting day of Digging the Past at Campus Martius Museum. Inquiries? Contact Bill Reynolds at 740-373-3750.
