SUMMARY:International Archaeology Day Coloring Poster at ENMU
DESCRIPTION:A large coloring poster featuring a variety of archaeological items\, specially designed for IAD\, will be set out in our building’s student lounge. Students will be able to take a break and color on the poster October 16-20. After that\, the completed poster will be hung in the Eastern New Mexico Department of Anthropology and Applied Archaeology. Images will also be shared on social media and in our department newsletter.

SUMMARY:Back to Angola Festival
DESCRIPTION:Archaeological Excavations confirmed the location of the early 19th-century maroon community of Angola at the current site of Manatee Mineral Springs Park in Bradenton\, Florida. The community-based archaeology led to the cultural heritage festival celebrating the survivors of the 1821 slave raid Angola who fled from Manatee Springs to Red Bays\, The Bahamas; the descendants are returning for the fourth Back to Angola Festival. The Festival includes presentations by descendants\, food\, music\, dancing\, museum exhibits at Reflections of Manatee\, Inc.\, and a scholars panel including community scholar Vickie Oldham\, historian Dr. Canter Brown Jr.\, and archaeologist Dr. Uzi Baram.
