Archeologist 1 & 2 Positions
The West Virginia Division of Highways seeks applicants for Archeologist 1 & 2 positions located in Charleston, West Virginia.
Under general supervision, performs professional work in archeology at the full-performance level. The duties consist of conducting site identification surveys, evaluating significance of sites, excavating historic and prehistoric sites, and evaluating their National Register eligibility; studies, classifies, and interprets artifacts recovered to determine age and cultural identity; assesses landform integrity; prepares maps, drawings, and charts for inclusion in reports; writes reports on site identification, evaluation, excavation and analysis; consults with other professionals engaged in historic and prehistoric archeology; and reviews reports by consultants on site identification, evaluation, excavation and analysis. Participates in public outreach activities relating to archeology. Salary range: $27,732 - $51,312/yr.
The duties of the Archeologist 2 positions are similar to those of the Archeologist 1, but can include budgetary items and supervision of other technical staff. Supervisory experience is desirable. Salary range: $31,164 - $57,660/yr.

Training: Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in archeology or anthropology.
Substitution: Experience as described below may substitute for the Master’s Degree.
Experience: One year of experience for Archeologist 1; three years experience for Archeologist 2 in archeological research activities.
