Faculty: Faculty of Arts and Humanities
Contract Type: Fixed-term for 3 years
Salary: £30,151 per annum, with additional allowances as per Marie Curie.
Closing Date: 21 June 2011
An opportunity has arisen for two Early Stage Researchers to join the Department of Archaeology to carry out PhD research on the analysis of Neolithic to Bronze Age pottery from excavations in the Mesara Plain of Crete. The research, which will be supervised by Dr Peter Day, will form part of the department's commitment to the 'New Archaeological Research Network for Integrating Approaches to ancient material studies (NARNIA). This is a Marie Curie Initial Training Network, financed under the 'People' program of the European Union. The posts offer the possibility of gaining a doctoral degree with a leading research team.
The successful applicants will have an MA or MSc in Archaeology or a relevant subject, preferably at distinction level (or have equivalent experience). Previous experience in the practice and research design of ceramic analysis is essential, and experience in the analytical study of ceramics within the Aegean is desirable. The post-holders will have the ability readily to combine archaeological and scientific information within an integrated program of research. The posts will involve the application of thin section petrography, chemical and micro-structural analysis to archaeological ceramics.
These posts are fixed-term with a start date of 1st September 2011 and an end date of 31st August 2014.
The Early Stage Researcher posts are offered in the context of a Marie Curie Initial Training Network and transnational mobility is a key element of eligibility. As such, applications will only be accepted from candidates who have spent less than 12 months in the United Kingdom within the last three years. The posts are open to all nationalities, regardless of citizenship of the European Union.
