AIA Lecturer: Clemens Reichel

Clemens Reichel is Professor with the University of Toronto’s Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations. He received his degrees from the University of Freiburg, the University of London (MA), and the University of Chicago (Ph.D.), and his areas of specialization are Mesopotamian archaeology, the archaeology of Syria, early state formation and urbanism, and complex bureaucracies in the ancient Near East. He has conducted fieldwork in Syria, Turkey, Jordan, and Egypt, is the author of several articles on the Oriental Institute’s Iraq Museum Database Project, as well as other topics in Near Eastern archaeology. He has been the recipient of several NEH grants, and is the AIA Kershaw Lecturer for 2009/2010.
