Professor Douglas K. Charles is with the Department of Anthropology, Wesleyan University, where he is Professor and Director of Collections of the Archaeology Program; he has also been a Research Associate and Director with the Center for American Archaeology. He holds his degrees from the University of Chicago and Northwestern University (M.A. and Ph.D.), and his areas of specialization are the prehistory of Eastern North America, particularly Hopewell, and the archaeology of funerary and ritual practices.
