Elizabeth Bartman is an independent scholar who specializes in Roman art and archaeology. Trained at Brown and Columbia Universities, she has had a broad-ranging professional career that includes several decades of service to the AIA, both at the local society and national levels. From 2011-2014 she served as President of the AIA.
She is the author of Ancient Sculptural Copies in Miniature; Portraits of Livia: Imaging the Imperial Women in Ancient Rome; and The Ince Blundell Catalogue of Classical Sculpture. Ideal Sculpture, as well as many articles and reviews. Her Ince work stimulated research on the historical collecting of antiquities, and also her current book project on sculptural restoration.
Over her career she has received major grants from the Getty, NEH, Kress Foundation, Metropolitan Museum, and National Gallery of Art. She is a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome, Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries in London, and a Corresponding Member of the German Archaeological Institute. In 2014 she co-founded Elifant Archaeo-Culinary Tours with Maureen Fant, a food writer.
