AIA Lecturer: James Russell

Professor James Russell is with the Department of Classical, Near Eastern, and Religious Studies at the University of British Columbia. He completed his M.A. at the University of Edinburgh, and his Ph.D. at the University of Chicago. His research focuses on the archaeology of the Roman provinces, especially in Britain, Asia Minor, and Syria-Palestine. In addition to this he is an authority on Byzantine Archaeology, and these interests have brought him to excavations in Greece, Turkey, and Israel. Professor Russell is a very active member of the AIA, and at various times has been President of both his local Vancouver Society, of the AIA-Canada, and of the AIA itself.
