Dr. Nigel Kennell is a Lecturer with the Department of Classical, Near Eastern, and Religious Studies at the University of British Columbia.  He holds his degrees from the University of Toronto (Ph.D.) and the University of British Columbia, and his areas of specialization are the history of Sparta, Greek epigraphy, and Greek civic culture in the Hellenistic and Roman periods.  HIs publications include “Age-Class Societies in Ancient Greece?” in Ancient Society (2013), “Boys, Girls, Family and State at Sparta,” in The Oxford Handbook of Childhood and Education in the Classical World (Oxford University Press, 2013), and
